Choosing the Right Pizza/Delivery POS System for You
- Peak customer volume
You must plan the number of stations based on peak business, when you are taking the most phone calls and orders. If you don’t you won’t be able to sufficiently handle the influx of customers during these periods.
- The number of employees taking orders
Our suggestion is one Point of Sale station for every person who can simultaniously take a phone or take-out order. If you have 3 phone lines coming into your building that can all be answered for order simultaniously and you have one more person for take-out orders then you should have a minimum of 4 stations. Many delivery places will have a station for the drivers to claim there orders as well, but this is based on the volume of your business. If you also have dine-in, in a table service environment we suggest 1 station for every 3-5 servers. High volume areas such as bars and cashier stations may need to have a dedicated station for that purpose. When switching to a POS system from a cash register many people make the mistake of forgetting that their POS system will not only be used for cashing people out, but will now be used for order entry as well.
- Of course you won't need a cash drawer for stations that are only taking phone orders. You will however need one for take-out orders. If you have a bar, you will need on there as well.
- One kitchen printer will probably be sufficient for many Pizza/Delivery POS systems; however, if you have different sections in your kitchen which handle different dishes you may want a printer for each section.
- For example, you can have all your pizzas print on one printer and all your sandwiches print on another.
- We recommend impact (dot-matrix) printers over thermal printers for kitchens and bars because their louder printing alerts cooks that an order is coming through and because tickets printed on thermal paper become unreadable when exposed to heat.
- If you have a row of Pizza Delivery POS stations that are all right next to each other, many business owners will share one receipt printer among those stations. However, every computer that is in its own area, should have a reciept printer so that customer receipts can easily be printed for customers without needing to cross the restaurant to retrieve one.
- The Caller ID box provides the ability for the computer system to grab the customers phone number and automatically add that to the system, saving you employees valuable time during peak volume times.
- Mapping Software allows your drivers to look up and print a map to the customers location before leaving the restaurant saving your drivers valuable time when trying to locate customers.

- A back office computer is good for allowing managers to run reports, access the system to make changes to menu, check inventory levels, or adjust employee time clock times, without disturbing servers and cashiers.
- It is not necessary to have a back office computer unless you have 4 or more stations. It is however a good idea to host the database on a back office computer if you do have 4 or more stations so that none of the stations has the additional load of running the database.
