CRE and RPE Protect Your CASH
The United States had an estimated 413,402 robberies in 2003 (about.com, as reported by the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting.)
These robberies accounted for $514 million in losses, or an average of $1,244 per robbery.
Plastic may be taking over as the preferred method of payment; however, cash is far from gone.
Retailers and restauranteurs use a variety of methods to help reduce theft including security cameras, well-lit checkout stations, and personal friendly greetings of every person walking in the door.
However, the single most effective way to reduce robberies is to remove what the robbers come in for--the cash. No money, nothing to steal.
Frequently removing cash--and posting signs that the registers don't keep cash on hand--is a proven way to reduce the number of robberies. A nationwide chain of convenient stores tested out this method in 60 of its stores, resulting in a significant 30 percent decrease in robberies.
Did you know that Cash Register Express and Restaurant Pro Express have a built-in cash handling system to protect your money?
CRE & RPE can alert you when there is too much money in the drawer--and if you want, the program will shut down the register until the cash is picked up and moved to a safer location.
The "Cash Alerts" feature can be configured to alert cashiers when their drawers are reaching the alert level. At this point, a manager (or a cashier with permission for cash drops) should use the "Cash Pickup" option to remove money from the register and store it in a safer place. If the manager is temporarily unavailable, the cashier can continue to ring up sales for a limited time. Built-in reports properly display the cash pickup amounts.
