Barino's Market is an Italian/American food experience. To describe it as an experience is certainly no stretch of the truth. Located in the Bronx, NY, Barino's is definitely one of the best markets around. Co-owned by Moe Aquino and Mike Barrett, their goal is to provide you with the "best tasting, finest quality food." And that they do. They use nothing but the freshest ingredients in all of their cooked and prepared food. But that's not all...not by a long shot. We recently had the opportunity of sitting down with Moe and Mike to hear more about their journey into the point of sale world. They started out old school. They ran their business with a cash register, but quickly became aware of their need for something more robust. A POS system was exactly what they needed. So Moe set out to do some research. He was already sold on the many functions a POS system could perform. Sales reporting, inventory tracking, employee tracking, error reduction, theft mitigation, were just some of the functionalities he was looking for. Customer retention is very important to every business. Recognizing that it's easier to keep an existing customer than it is to acquire a new one, Barino's utilized their POS system to launch a full-blown loyalty program for their customers. Who doesn't love a good bakery, right? There's something about fresh bread, muffins, and pastries that satisfies the taste buds like no other food group. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, bring it on! Anytime, but not any place. There are good bakeries and bad. Doughboys Bakery, located in the heart of Los Angeles, CA, is an amazing bakery. You might have already heard of them. Several years back they were celebrated on the Oprah Winfrey show for their infamous Red Velvet Cake. Apparently it's the best of its kind in the entire country. Of course we had to try it for ourselves and after doing so, we concur, it really is that good! It was a pleasure to meet one of the owners (Terry Ickowicz) and his staff who were all extremely accommodating not to mention a lot of fun. And sitting in front of their store enjoying the always so warm and sunny weather that California has to offer wasn’t too bad either.

During our conversation with Terry, he explained how he found us online. A good portion of our business is due to our website. One of the things we strive for is good customer service and it starts with our Product Specialists. Not only are they friendly, they are also very knowledgeable of our products and services. But their expertise doesn’t stop there. They are exceptionally good at helping our prospective customers identify their POS needs and able to develop a plan that will help set you on the right path to success. Fun, and lots of it, is a perfect way to describe what occurs at Hawthorne's Backyard Bar & Grill on a regular basis. They go way above and beyond the norm to ensure that their customers have a good time. Live entertainment, plenty of TVs, bocce ball and sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and much more helps create an environment for all ages to experience loads of enjoyment. That coupled with great food makes it a frequently visited place for people living in or near Chicago. Located in a western suburb of Chicago, Hawthorne's offers some of the best BBQ in Illinois.

We recently had the privilege of stopping by to hang out with the owners, Frank Indelli and Lou Kopinski. We enjoyed hearing a little more about their story and why they chose to purchase their POS system here at POS Nation. Investing in a POS system for your business is a serious commitment. For many people the task can be quite daunting. What kind of system should I get? Who should I make the purchase from? Will their technical support team be able to help me get set up properly so that I have a seamless transition? Do they even have a technical support department? Is the price reasonable? Here at POS Nation we work with a wide variety of businesses all across the United States and beyond. We get to know each customer quite well through the process of doing business together. It's amazing how technology allows us the opportunity to help so many businesses even though they are often times not located in the same state as our corporate office. Occasionally we get the pleasure of visiting our customers in person. Such was the case recently when we travelled to Bakersfield, CA to visit RiverWalk Café. The purpose of our trip was to do a case study. The owner, James Whitener, and his son, Jon Whitener, who manages the café, greeted us with open arms. Their entire staff welcomed us in like fashion.

Upon interviewing James and Jon it became quickly apparent to us that their newly established business was going to be a great success. Their commitment to excellence is consistent throughout everything they do. From their friendly and professional staff to the top quality, fresh food items they offer, one cannot help but be impressed. Even their menus make a strong impression. They are digital, which is rare in Bakersfield. In fact, RiverWalk is the only café in the entire region that utilizes this type of technology to display their menu. James loves technology, which is why he looked to a POS system to help operate his business. He did his homework and ended up going with POS Nation because we offered the best system according to his needs. An integral part of their business is catering. They developed a very user friendly ordering system on their website which we integrated right into their POS system. Their online orders print straight to their kitchen for easy processing. Located in the Country Club section of the Bronx in New York is a very charming restaurant called Vibano's Trattoria. Co-owners of Barino's Market, Moe Aquino and Mike Barrett, recently partnered with their long time friend and well-accomplished chef, Vito Facciabene, to embark on this new business endeavor. The name, Vibano's, is a creative combination of their three names. Vibano's Trattoria serves the most delicious Italian food around. Their combination of unique ambiance, quality food and outstanding service can very easily make you feel as though you are enjoying a meal in Venice, Italy. And all this for a price that is very reasonable.

Since POS Nation was successful in providing a POS system to Barino's Market, it was natural for them to look to us again for their restaurant needs. And we didn't disappoint. They purchased a perfect system for their newly established restaurant. It provided all of the features they were already accustomed to at their market plus some additional functionalities that are geared specifically toward the restaurant industry. The Aldelo For Restaurants software was perfect for what they needed. When talking to Vito he quickly and enthusiastically explained how they were taking advantage of the inventory feature and recipe tracking. They are able to calculate to the penny the cost of every dish they offer. This helps them manage their overall costs, identify profitable markup percentages and also informs them when they are low on inventory.

When talking with one of their servers, he enthusiastically described how easy it was for him to learn the system. With years of experience already under his belt in the restaurant industry, he surprisingly never worked in an environment that embraced POS technology. His familiarity was only that of a traditional cash register. He explained to us that when he first started working for Vibano's, he was a bit reluctant and even intimidated by the POS system, but after a very short time using it he learned to appreciate its capabilities. He even mentioned that he never wanted to go back to using a cash register ever again. He's a fan for life!

Aroma Coffee House & Cafe is so much more than a place to get a cup of Joe. Whether you are craving breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just want something to quench your unquestionable addiction to caffeine, Aroma won't let you down. And since we are on the subject of great food, might we recommend their egg, bacon and cheese croissant? Incredible!

Located right outside of Charlotte, NC (Fort Mill, SC to be exact), Aroma is a quality café to say the least. It's family operated by some truly amazing people. The Lowney family is very special. Because of that, the Aroma Coffee House & Cafe case study was very unique when compared to the others. Chris Allen, POS Nation's Chief Operating Officer, has had a longstanding relationship with the owners, Charles and Mirtha Lowney, and their family. As was the case for Aroma, there are countless businesses that are doing well, but just don't have the capital needed to make certain upgrades to the way they operate.

In order to be successful in business it's important to stay focused on the bottom line. While that is very true and an essential principle in becoming profitable, we also recognize that there are other core responsibilities and opportunities that present themselves every day. This was that type of a moment for us here at POS Nation. We love making a difference in our community so doing something special for Aroma was a perfect fit for us, and them as well. We donated a brand new, top of the line POS system and only asked one thing in return – the chance to do a case study with them. We really enjoy learning. We’re consistently staying in contact with businesses around the nation to better understand their needs. Identifying several challenges they had in their day to day, knowing full well that their new POS system was going to easily rectify them, was like being a kid in a candy store. Let's just say that it brought us a good measure of joy. Before giving them a POS system, they were using a traditional cash register. There are certain things a cash register can do, but there are more limitations than anything. One such example is theft mitigation. Aroma experienced this first hand. Being stolen from is a very frustrating and painful experience. Using a cash register to run your payment transactions leaves you vulnerable in too many ways to consider it a viable solution. A POS system eradicates theft by introducing various features that hold the user accountable to working honestly.

Another challenge for Aroma was the amount of time it took to ring up the order, receive payment and deliver the product. Many of their customers are on their way to work when stopping in. They want to get a latte and a bite to eat, but they want it fast so they can get on with their day. A POS system assists in this endeavor by speeding up the transaction process significantly. Orders are completed with a simple touch of the monitor and swipe of a card.

Definitely worthy of mention is the digital signage they received with their system. Suggestive sales are a worthwhile strategy for Aroma. Digital signs now allow them the ability to promote specific food, drinks and specials without even saying a word.

Here at POS Nation, we've noticed a steady trend in the tobacco industry. More and more people are starting to roll their own cigarettes. Why not, right? It's easy, chemical free, better quality, and you save a considerable amount of money. Tobacco stores are benefitting significantly because of this ever-growing demand. New businesses are opening up all over the nation and already existing tobacco shops are expanding by opening multiple locations. One of our clients, Double D's Tobacco, is doing just that. They now have six locations throughout South Florida and they are continuing to grow.

With thousands of customers, it became very important for Double D's to manage their business operations in an efficient manner. That's where we came into the picture. We worked with them extensively in order to identify a perfect solution for their needs. It quickly became evident that they needed a POS solution in order to run their business properly. While it's true that we can make that argument for any and all businesses that receive payments, Double D's had some specific requirements that a typical cash register could not help with.

Age verification is a necessity for them. It's significantly important for them to make sure their customers meet the legal age requirement for purchasing tobacco products. Sure, you can do it manually by checking their driver's license, but why risk having your employees make a mistake when calculating your customer's age? That can and does happen, often. And how do you know they’re not giving you a fake ID? Truth is, you don’t, unless of course you have one of our POS systems integrated with ID verification. This interface enforces age verification by forcing cashiers to scan or swipe the customer's driver's license upon ringing up tobacco or liquor products. The POS system will instantly check the age and either approve or decline the sales transaction depending on the results.
