We just received an HP ElitePad Mobile Point of Sale Solution complete with a docking station and a sleeve, and I have to say, it’s awesome. The ElitePad is equipped with Windows 8, and runs full versions of most of our POS software.
In the pictures below, you can see how sleek and slim HP has designed the unit to be (full confession, outside of the sleeve, the ElitePad looks and feels very much like a certain fruit company’s tablet).

The docking station is about the size of the palm of your hand and offers USB, HDMI, and VGA ports. What I love about the tablet is how easy it is to detach from the docking station, use as a mobile POS system, and then reattach to the docking station. We envision the device serving the needs of any retail or restaurant location wanting to provide their employees with mobility or simply wanting to take a minimalist approach to their point of sale system.
Literally as I’m writing this, our tech guys are testing and retesting the ElitePad with our POS software and making sure it works properly with our peripheral devices (i.e., receipt printers, remote printers, scanners, etc.). Check back often for more updates. This is one cool product, and I really believe the HP ElitePad Mobile POS Solution has a chance to be an industry game changer.
