What makes a grocery store POS system different from a general retail system?

The main area grocery POS systems differ from regular POS systems is software (particularly inventory management) and hardware integrations.

For software, grocery store POS systems usually include perishable inventory/expiration tracking, weight-based sales, and department-based product and pricing management that general systems sometimes don't include out of the box.

Hardware is another major area where general POS systems and grocery store POS systems vary. The biggest issue for many food market owners is scale integration (scanner scales, deli scales, etc.).
